  • How many sessions do I expect to attend? And how often?

Normally, there is no set limit for how many sessions you need to attend in therapy. Your therapist and you will discuss this matter in the initial meeting to assist the decision-making. For the best therapeutic outcome, weekly appointment is recommended to begin with.

  • How do I make an appointment?

You can call the office number or email me to set up a 15-minute complimentary phone consultation.

  • What should I expect before the initial session?

You will be expected to show up to your appointment on time. For clients who are minors, the initial session would be consisted with parents and child to discuss any concerns and counseling goals. For children age 3-12, I would recommend to have parents attend the initial session without the children.

  • Do both parents have to attend therapy for a child client?

Both parents are recommended to attend the initial meeting and periodic parent meetings for the best therapeutic results.

  • What do I tell my child about going to play therapy?

You can tell your child prior to the first play session that "you are going to have a special play time with a special person/helper (once a week)."

  • How long does each individual session last?

Each session will last 50 minutes. For play therapy clients, the duration of each play session will vary depending on child's ability to sustain attention and will be discussed in the initial parent-only session.

  • Do you speak other languages?

Yes. Besides English, I speak Mandarin and Taiwanese fluently. Counseling services in Chinese are available.

  • What is the difference between play therapist and registered play therapist?

A Registered Play Therapist has completed mandatory play therapy courses, finished a substantial amount of counseling hours working with children under professional supervision, is required to obtain Continuing Education periodically, and is credentialed by the Association of Play Therapy; a play therapist is not required to have all the stipulations as described above.
